Exclusive Singles - 12 December

Madonna (Single / Maverick) – Masterpiece
Sang Ratu Pop, Madonna, mengabarkan jika album barunya akan beredar sekitar musim semi tahun depan. Ini merupakan kabar yang sangat menggembirakan. Kabarnya dia akan bekerjasama dengan banyak nama paten di skena musik dunia. Untuk sementara, mari kita nikmati single terbarunya yang berjudul Masterpiece. Single ini dikabarkan juga akan terdapat di album tersebut namun single ini juga merupakan bagian dari soundtrack untuk film debut penyutradaan Madonna yang berjudul W.E. Masterpiece sendiri adalah sebuah pop mid-tempo yang manis meski terdengar sedikit gloomy. Jika ingat dengan corak dan gaya lagu-lagu Madonna di era Ray of Light atau Music, dimana elemen elektonika dipadu dengan pop yang melankolis, maka demikianlah yang bisa irasakan saat mendengar Masterpiece. Dengan vokal yang mengalun lembut, Masterpiece menunjukkan jika Madonna memang seorang penyanyi tangguh yang tidak ada matinya. (8/10)

Leona Lewis (EP. Hurt / SyCo) – Hurt
Album ketiga Leona Lewis, Glassheart, mengalami pengunduran tanggal rilis, sehingga baru bisa disimak di tahun 2012 nanti, karena kabarnya mengalami penambahan polesan untuk mempercantik albumnya. Untuk mengobati kekecewaan para penggemarnya, Leona kemudian merilis sebuah EP, yang juga merupakan EP pertamanya yang diberi judul Hurt. Dirilis pada tanggal 11 Desember dan berisi tiga lagu, Hurt adalah koleksicover version dari beberapa lagu lawas yang populer, termasuk Hurt ini yang merupakan lagu yang telah dipopulerkan oleh Nine Inch Nail. Agak sedikit mengingatkan interprestasi Leona akan Run milik Snow Patrol, dimana diawali dengan lirih hingga menuju klimaksnya yang spektakuler melalui vokal Leona yang dahsyat. Terasa sangat emosionil dan mengharukan sekaligus bergelora. (8/10)

All American Rejects (Single / Interscope) – Someday’s Gone
Album keempat All American Rejects, yang masih belum diketahui judulnya, akan dirilis pada tanggal 7 Februari 2012 dengan single pertama untuk album tersebut, Beekeeper’s Daughter, dirilis pada Januari 2011. Namun, sebagai pemanasan, AAR telah melepas secara cuma-cuma single Someday’s Gone ini di situs resmi mereka, pada tanggal 5 Desember, lengkap dengan sebuah video klip pula. Single ini masih tetap diwarnai oleh aransemen rock yang kental, namun tempo medium membuat Someday’s Gone terdengar sedikit mellow. Namun, tetap saja menampilkan kekuatan AAR yang prima, terutama pada chorusnya yang meledak-ledak. (8/10)

Arkarna (Single / Unsigned ) Strange Creatures
Album terakhir band pengsusung elector-rock, Arkarna, dirilis 11 tahun yang lalu. Jeda selama itu memang kurang menguntungkan karena kemungkinan tidak diingat lagi secara umum adalah besar sekali. Oleh karena itu, Arkarna yang kini hanya terdiri atas Ollie Jacobs dan Matt Hart tentu saja berupaya keras agar mereka bisa diterima kembali. Album terbaru mereka masih tengah dalam pengerjaan di sebuah studio di London dan direncanakan rilis pada tahun 2012 nanti. Setelah melepas single Left Is Best, maka Arkarna kemudian merilis single Strange Creatures secara gratis melalui akun Facebook mereka pada tanggal 10 November. Meski tetap dipengaruhi oleh nuansa industrial akan tetapi Arkarna tampaknya juga siap untuk menerima pengaruh trend yang tengah berkembang. Tidak heran jika dubstep pun ikut ambil bagian dalam aransemen lagunya. Atmosferik dan gloomy pun menjadi kesan yang sulit untuk dihindarkan. (8/10)
